Advancing Applied Innovation and Research at Tufts

The Auster Center helps Tufts researchers translate discoveries into real-world impact through transdisciplinary collaboration, systematic methodologies, and strategic partnerships.

Our Mission

To advance understanding of how innovation—particularly technology innovation and innovations touched by technology—can be fostered, translated, and applied to do good in the world.

We promote innovation in solving complex societal challenges through transdisciplinary approaches spanning social sciences, natural sciences, and technology for the public good.

Our Vision

To be a beacon for forward-looking applied innovation and research pioneers, helping them navigate complex challenges of the future through transdisciplinary collaboration and translating innovation into global impact for the benefit of all.

Our Story

In 2023, a significant gift from Charles Auster (A’73) established the Auster Center for Applied Innovation and Research within the Tufts Gordon Institute (TGI) ecosystem. Filip Čučkov joined as the inaugural director and Auster Professor of Applied Innovation, bringing expertise in innovation research, technology commercialization, and entrepreneurial methodologies.

The Center works alongside the Derby Entrepreneurship Center within TGI—Derby develops an entrepreneurial mindset and skillset, while Auster provides applied research capabilities and translation support. Together, they create comprehensive resources for transforming ideas into impact.
